The Story of Olomunyak
The name "Olomunyak" is a Maasai word meaning "lucky one" or "blessed one". There is a leopard in the Maasai Mara who was given this name. About a week after this picture was taken by Boone, the mother of two cubs hid them so she could hunt. Hyenas came and killed the female cub. But this little male leopard was able to climb a skinny little tree and hold on through the night. He survived and was given the name Olomunyak or "Lucky" by the guides and rangers.
Below is a picture of Olomunyak with his mother, Luluka, taken by Boone in August of 2025 . Olomunyak is on the left.

And to the left is Olomunyak in August of 2026. He has left his mother and is quite the hunter. Boone hopes to continue photographing him for many years to come. He is one lucky leopard.
And those of us who have traveled to Kenya on safari know how lucky we are to have had that experience. Donating to the Olomunyak Foundation to help the children and teachers at the school is one way to give back to the people who made our experience so special.
